In recent weeks I have been criticized as much (maybe more) by Trump Conservatives, as I ever was by Obama fans because I have held Trump and his admin to the same standards I held Obama to. Is this really a thing? Simply because “your” guy ends up in office, you get to forget about everything you stood for during the years the “opposing” team held power? Well, tonight I am talking about 3 reasons you too should hold ALL politicians to the same standard, and I think when you are done you’ll see that it is vital to ALL conservatives future credibility to make sure and keep Trump in line regardless of the “end”, if the “means” is suspect.
1. Political activity now can lead to your opposition making the same choice when you DON’T benefit.
Harry Reid…need I say more? He was the king of justifying his actions, like the nuclear option for example, and now Democrats have lost their battle to keep Gorsuch off of the SCOTUS because that same tool was thrown back at them. Now, McConnell should be looking at this as well, as his reuse of the nuclear option will certainly spur the Dem’s to use this option again once they reclaim power one day.
2.Your credibility, long term, depends on it!
If you can justify disregarding the constitution because it benefits you in the moment, or because it makes your guy look less “politiciany”, you will have no basis to say anything when the opposition decides to do the same thing. You have to be above reproach at all times because, as a Conservative, we are under the microscope ALL the time, whether our guy is in office or not.
3.Some of the best Conservative prospects have become the worst RINO leaders in the USA.
Sandra Day O’Connor, John Roberts, Jackie Walorski, Paul Ryan…all “conservatives” that ended up being huge liberal sympathizing wastes. What does that mean for us now? Well, for instance, Trump is making some good choices now, but what about if he stops…what if he ends up just as big of a disappointment as the others mentioned above? We MUST, as Conservatives, stand up to those that make choices that are not in line with the Constitution and with Conservative principles, regardless of what past decisions they have made. One good choice or even a string of them doesn’t give our leaders a pass at a poor choice that flys in the face of what they promised us.
All of this being said, I think it is appropriate to talk about this now because I have received several nasty messages from many who have told me that I should either support Trump, or be quiet. Those are not the only options on the table folks. While these are two options, the others involve praising Trump’s good decisions and, when needed, criticizing his choices that fly in the face of Conservative principles. That is our civic duty…not just simply “pulling a lever” in a voting booth.
So next time you want to send some nasty words my way for saying something about Trump because of a bad choice, that, by the way, you would have applauded me for had Obama still been in office, do me a favor and think back to that one time we thought the horrendous genocide known as abortion was going to finally come to an end, when, then President Reagan nominated Sandra Day O’Connor to SCOTUS. We didn’t expect her to turn out the way she did, why couldn’t a similar scenario happen again?
